MEDIA INFORMATION

1- ACCREDITATION

The Media accreditation forms are available from the Media offices of your respective federations. There are three forms:

·       The Media Accreditation Form
·       The Telecommunications Form
·       The Accommodation Form

The deadline for accreditation is March 7th, 2005. The deadline for the accommodation forms is February 21st, 2005.

Accredited journalists will receive a letter of confirmation when their applications have been approved. This letter must be produced when the journalists claim their accreditation. Journalists should get their accreditation materials at the secondary Media Center (Centre de Media secondaire) which is located at the Media hotel, le Terminus du Forez (see address later).

A welcome area for journalists will be opened Thursday March 17th from 2pm (full details on opening hours in the next paragraph). On Saturday and Sunday after midday, the accreditation will be located at the competition site near the ticketing entrance.

MEDIA HOTELS

The main media hotel is the Terminus du Forez. This is a 3 star Hotel located opposite the station. 30 rooms have been reserved. There are three other hotels. Hotel du Midi (3 star), Hotel Tenor (2 star) Hotel Furania (2 star)

2- MEDIA DOCUMENTATION

The following information will be available to journalists on their arrival:
From the IAAF: the provisional competitor list; their recent results; biographical information on the top competitors; statistical information; the number of participating countries and athletes; copies of IAAF press releases.

From the Local Organising Committee (LOC): The schedule of events; course maps, information on French athletes; information on the Cross-Country tradition in the region; information on the organizing committee; tourist information for St. Etienne and St. Galmier (this information will also appear in the media guide and the Official Program); Souvenirs from the Organising Committee or partners; press releases from the organizing committee; copies of newsletters.

The secondary Media center will be located in the Blue Train Room (Salon Train Bleu)
The accreditation area will be located in the "Salon Pullman" opposite the reception.

The Media Center will be open at 2pm on Thursday March 17th.

On the weekend during the races, the media area will be closed at noon and will reopen one hour after the start of the last race.

Three buildings are located at the finish line. The Media center and the Media stand are located in the central building.

Media Stand
The media stand is located in the large hall, next to the media room. The media stand comprises: 70 seats with lecterns on two levels, 20 seats without lecterns in the media room along the glass window.

A large video screen is located opposite the stands in comfortable viewing range. In addition there are three existing TV monitors for the media in the media stand.
Epson (CIS) interactive terminals will be installed for the paper journalists (10 in the media stand and 2 in the workroom). Each commentato'rs box (Radio and TV) will also be equipped with a CIS.

4- DISTRIBUTION OF INFORMATION

In addition to the information mentioned in paragraph 2:
The starting lists will be made available on the evening of Friday March 18th, after the technical meeting that starts at 5pm. As well as the complete results for each event (individual and team standings), the partial results (top 50) will also made available to the media. The complete tabulation of the final results of the championships will be available at the final banquet.

5- OFFICIAL INTERVIEWS

The post race interview room (for the top three finishers) is located on the ground floor of the VIP building. Journalists may access the interview room via the interior corridor. All interviews will be translated into English.

6- IAAF/LOC MEDIA/ CONFERENCES

The official IAAF/LOC press conference will be held on Friday March 18th at noon at the Goeffroy Guichard Stadium at St Etienne. The athletes' press conference will be held as usual as the second part of this conference. The athletes will be selected when the participant list is confirmed as well as the arrival times of the teams.

7- PHOTOGRAPHY

The Photography Officer: Jean-Pierre DURAND
The photography officer is responsible for organizing the briefing meeting for the photographers with the cooperation of the IAAF.
The briefing will take place on Saturday March 19th at 10:00 in the interview room at the competition site.
The photographer's bibs will be distributed during the briefing.
A document will be given to the photographers during the meeting indicating the photographer's positions, the direction of the races and all other necessary information. The photographers will also be given a course map showing the photography positions as well as the intersection points on the course.
Photography positions at the finish line: the Local Organising Committee (LOC) is planning to build a 1.6m wide, multi-level platform by the arrival funnel.

The IAAF, in cooperation with the photography officer, will select the photographers that will be given access to the arrival platform. In principle, these photographers will still be free to access the interior of the course and will be identified by bibs provided by the IAAF.
Each photographer will wear a bib.

8- TRANSPORT

Upon arrival at Lyon St. Expiry Airport, journalists may take the shuttles laid on for the athletes for transport to the Hotels subject to availability of spaces. Return transportation to the airports will be organized by the LOC. Transport will also be provided between the Media Hotel to the conference on the evening of Friday March 18th (1 outward and 1 return trip).
Journalists will also be able to visit the course on Friday March 18th by using the shuttles laid on for the athletes by the LOC (The course visit is scheduled for 3pm).

Transportation will be provided on competition days from the media hotels to the course in St. Galmier (30min approximately). A map for local transportations and schedules will be available on site.

9- BANQUETS AND RECEPTIONS

A buffet will be available for the journalists after the Friday IAAF/LOC press conference. All journalists are invited to the final banquet. Journalists will be asked to indicate if they will be attending the banquet when they receive their accreditation details.
