The first European
Cup
In 1965 the first European Cup created by Bruno ZAULI (President
of the European Committee of IAAF), was held. Competing in the men's competition
was USSR, FRG, Poland, DRG, France and Great Britain while the women's competition
was between USSR, DRG, Poland, FRG, Hungary and the Netherlands.
The
first individual French victory in the European Cup was Robert Poirier in
1986 over 400m hurdles, who is now head coach of the French team.
